Week of January 18th – January 22nd

Hi,

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

This week we will get back into our unit: The Constitution in a New Nation. On Tuesday, students will learn about the Electoral College and argue whether or not they agree with this electoral process.  Tuesday will also be spent on examining the 1st four presidential elections in the United States as well as the 12th Amendment.

On Wednesday, students will receive their social studies grade for 2nd quarter.  Students will revisit the goal they set for 2nd quarter and determine whether or not they met their 2nd quarter goal and explain why or why not.  Students will then set goals for 3rd quarter and explain how they plan to meet that 3rd quarter goal.  Remember, “goal-setting” is one of our district’s Strategic Objectives and can be very effective.  Also, as we start the 2nd half of the school year, please make sure your child has everything he or she may need for class.  Now is a great time to restock your child with paper, pencils, and maybe even a new blue folder.

On Thursday we will start working on our 3rd quarter project: Comparing the Beliefs and Ideals of Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton.  Each student will be creating a visual representation (poster) on either Hamilton or Jefferson’s views on these five issues: nature of human beings, best type of government, the Constitution, political party, and ideal economy.

Since the project will be done in class, homework will depend greatly on how much students accomplish during the class period.

**Remember, Friday is a Record Day so there is no school for students.

Have a great week!
